Vice President Biden makes surprise appearance at church service in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Vice President Joe Biden has made a surprise appearance at the historic African-American church in South Carolina where nine people were killed during a Bible study. Biden said he attended today’s services to “show solidarity with the families and with the church.” He wore a purple tie, a symbolic color of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston. Biden received a standing ovation after reading a selection of scripture.
