Police identify teens who drowned in Ashland County spillway

PERRYSVILLE, Ohio — Police have identified the teens who died after jumping into a spillway near Pleasant Hill Lake in Perrysville.

According to a release from the Ashland County Coroner’s Office, several teens went to the spillway to go swimming on Friday.

Chloe Ernst, 16, jumped into the spillway. Friends standing above the spillway noticed Ernst was in distress, and Austin Weyhmeller, 16, went into the water to help her.

A few minutes later, Cali Cochran, 14, also went into the water to help Ernst.

Rangers were able to pull Cochran to safety, but Ernst and Weymeller did not survive.
