CLEVELAND- A man was shot in the back early Monday morning in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood.

Cleveland police said it happened shortly before 4 a.m. near College and Professor avenues.

The victim, a 26-year-old Broadview Heights man, told police he was walking to get something out of his car when he was approached by two men, who pulled a gun on him. The man slapped the gun away and started running. That’s when he heard a gunshot and felt pressure in his back, the police report said.

The victim ran to a friend’s house on Jefferson Avenue, where she called 911. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound.

Officers searched the scene for shell casings and other evidence, but came up empty. The police report said they plan to review surveillance video from nearby businesses.
