13-year-old boy charged with delinquency after being accused of stealing $25K from grandfather

MEDINA – A 13-year-old boy has been charged with delinquency for allegedly stealing $25K from his grandfather and handing out to friends at school, according to police.

The grandfather, 83, is from Medina Township. The boy is accused of taking the money from his home then handing it out to students at Claggett Middle School in Medina.

Police believed the boy’s 14-year-old friend is also involved, along with the friend’s grandparents and another adult. The 14-year-old was charged with receiving stolen property.

More than $7,000 was recovered, along with merchandise purchased with the money, including a television set. Police say a portion of the money was used to purchase more than $4,000 worth of gift cards.
