BRIMFIELD – The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation has finished an investigation into a popular former local police chief.

Brimfield Township officials told the I-Team in February about the allegations involving former Chief David Oliver.

BCI officials confirmed to the Fox 8 I-Team Wednesday that the investigation regarding possible criminal issues at the Brimfield Police Department was given to the Portage County Prosecutor’s Office last week. It will now be up to the prosecutor’s office to review the information and determine if any charges should be filed.

Portage County Prosecutor Victor Vigluicci did not return a call seeking comment on the case.

Oliver became an internet sensation with a large Facebook following while chief. He retired in January after a female officer filed a complaint against him alleging sexual harassment and said the former chief created a hostile work environment.

Oliver has previously denied the sexual harassment allegations to the Fox 8 I-Team. He could not be reached Wednesday.
