LOUISVILLE, KY – It was an emotional night for Colonel Ed Box, his sons and his former team.

Box hasn’t been home in nearly a year, as he has been deployed in Afghanistan, according to WAVE.

He waited patiently in the stands as his son, a senior and future University of Kentucky Wildcat, Jon Box was playing.

Box said he made the decision to come home a few months back, but wanted to make sure the family reunion was somewhere his sons were at their happiest.

The entire team came in for hugs after Box reunited with his sons, as he was a coach for two years before he was deployed.

“To coach my son in baseball,” Box said, “It’s a great honor, so this time coming back and be able to see the team and see who’s changed and who’s still here, it’s just a great privilege to come back.”

Box has to return to Afghanistan on May 31 to complete his rotation, but he will get to see his son graduate on May 29.
