BENTLEYVILLE, OH – Family and friends gathered in the Metro Parks on Mother’s Day to dedicate a bench to Aliza Sherman.

Jennifer Sherman, Aliza’s daughter, helped organize the ceremony, and said this was the perfect tribute to her mother.

"My mom was someone who loved the outdoors, she loved the sunshine and she loved to bring people together. So for us, we're hoping that this bench is something that will be here for a long time to keep her memory and spirit alive,” she said.

Aliza was murdered two years ago. According to police, she was stabbed outside her divorce attorney’s office in downtown Cleveland. No one has been arrested for her death.

"Not having her here and being able to physically talk to her in person and to tell her just how much she means to me and how much I care about her is tough, but this is a nice substitute given the circumstances,” said Aliza’s son Jason Sherman.

During the event, people were also asked to collect clothing, toiletries and baby items to donate to the “hope totes” Jennifer is filling. She plans to donate them to Laura’s Home, a women’s crisis center in Cleveland, at the end of the month.

More details about how the public can help with that will be coming soon. Stay with FOX 8 for the latest.
