Elderly Cleveland couple shot in home invasion

CLEVELAND – A 73-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man were shot in their home early this morning, victims of a home invasion robbery.

"Yeah, I'm concerned,” said Robert Ellison, who works down the street.

Ellison didn’t hear anything strange around 12:30 a.m., but the fact that two elderly people were hurt so violently makes him uneasy.

"Somebody getting shot right next to me and I'll be working here late at night, maybe somebody will come up and shoot me or something," he said.

Police tell Fox 8 the suspect, a black male wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and black hat, forced his way into a home on East 130th Street shortly after midnight. He demanded money at gunpoint and as he fled the home, he shot the couple.

The female victim is listed in critical condition and the male is listed in stable condition at MetroHealth Medical center. Both were shot in the abdomen.

There have been  no arrests so far, and anyone with information regarding this incident is being asked to contact the Fourth District Detective Bureau at 216-623-5418.

"It's scary like I said I have a 5-year old and it's literally right next door, it's scary but what can you do,” said Yvonne Johnson.

"Just try to protect yourself, protect your kids, and do the best you can and stay out of situations like that."
