Motorcyclist killed in Erie County head-on crash

MARGARETTA TOWNSHIP, Ohio- A head-on crash left one man dead in Erie County early Friday morning.

The crash happened at about 5:20 a.m. on state Route 101 near Howard Drive in Margaretta Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the driver of a Chevrolet Blazer was trying to turn onto Howard Drive and hit a Harley Davidson motorcycle head on. The motorcyclist, 45-year-old Dwight D. Gregory Jr., was thrown from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.

According to troopers, the Blazer went off the side of the road. The driver was taken to Firelands Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation and alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
