PARKER, Colo. -- A prom picture showing students posing with guns and the Confederate flag is causing controversy in Colorado.

According to KDVR, Chaparral High School hosted prom in Denver on Saturday. The photo shows three male students and five female students dressed in their prom attire, posing with the flag and holding guns.

The teens did not do anything illegal; however, some students and parents are questioning their decision.

The mother of one of the students in the photo, who did not want to be identified, says that her son was surprised when the guns and the flag were brought out. She says other parents fully supported the decision and were taking pictures of their kids.

The mother says she doesn't condone her son's behavior and that he made a mistake.
