Ellen Albertini Dow, the rapping granny from ‘The Wedding Singer, dead at 101

Ellen Albertini Dow, the actress best known for rapping “Rapper’s Delight” in the 1998 film The Wedding Singer, died on Monday at the age of 101.

Dow’s agent confirmed the news to Deadline late Monday.

Dow, a native of Pennsylvania, started acting on-screen in the 1980s. Her film credits include the ‘Sister Act’ films, ‘My Blue Heaven’ and she also played Grandma Cleary in ‘Wedding Crashers.’ She also appeared on several television shows including ‘The Golden Girls,’  ‘The Wonder Years,’  ‘Seinfeld,’  ‘Murphy Brown’ and others.

Dow most recently appeared on ‘New Girl’ and ‘Family Guy’ in 2013.

Dow’s version of ‘Rapper’s Delight’  was featured on the double platinum soundtrack to ‘The Wedding Singer.’
