CLEVELAND – Friday is a Cleveland sports fan’s dream come true: the Indians home opener against the Detroit Tigers at 4:10 p.m. and the playoff bound Cavs taking on the Boston Celtics at 7:30 p.m.

A sports fan’s dream yes…but for anyone driving downtown, the dream could become a bit of a nightmare. Remember the Public Square ongoing renovation?

That’s why RTA has decided to operate extra rail service for these events.  And they have some tips for smooth travels to the games:

If you want to avoid Public Square and downtown traffic congestion, park for free at a Rapid station, buy a $5 All-Day Pass, and ride the train into the Tower City Station. Use the Walkway to reach Quicken Loans Arena, with Progressive Field right next door. The Walkway opens at 12:30 p.m. if you want to come down early and check out all the renovations to Progressive Field.  Gates open at 1 p.m., and outdoor music begins in the new area behind right field at 2 p.m.

Another option is to board at any westbound HealthLine station and ride to Public Square. From there it’s a short walk to either game.
