Man charged in crash that killed 101-year-old Cleveland woman

WESTLAKE, Ohio- A Lakewood man is facing charges for a car crash that killed a 101-year-old woman.

It happened on March 19 at the intersection of Detroit and Clague roads in Westlake. Police said the victim’s 65-year-old son was driving when another car turned in front of them.

Alma Figush, 101, of Cleveland, was taken to Fairview Hospital, where she died from her injuries. The other driver, 24-year-old Saleh Almaqbul, was treated at St. John Medical Center.

On Friday, a warrant was issued for Almaqbul, who is a resident of Lakewood and citizen of Saudi Arabia. He was charged with vehicular homicide and failure to yield.

Almaqbul turned in his passport before he was released on bond. The Saudi Arabian embassy was notified of his arrest.

According to Westlake police, drugs or alcohol were not involved in the crash and all three people were wearing seatbelts.
