GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Authorities have located a 12-year-old girl taken inside a stolen vehicle.

Garfield Heights police say the black 2000 Chevrolet Impala was stolen around 12 a.m. Friday at the Open Pantry in the 4500 block of East 131st Street.

Police say the car was left in a parking lot with the engine running and the girl asleep in the backseat.

While the car’s owner went into the store, an unknown black male entered the unlocked vehicle and drove off north on East 131st Street. The man then drove to East 93rd Street and Kinsman Avenue and told the girl to get out of the car and go into the gas station.

The man then drove off.

The girl was not hurt during the incident and was reunited with her mother a short time later.

The man and the vehicle have not been located. But the man has tentatively been identified by witnesses.

The case is still under investigation.
