Police officer on leave after man shot and killed in Munroe Falls

MUNROE FALLS, Ohio- A man was shot and killed at a Munroe Falls home early Thursday morning.

It happened at about 2 a.m. at a house on Hiwood Avenue, the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said. The 29-year-old man was taken to Akron City Hospital, where he died hours later.

Sources told the FOX 8 I-team that a police officer owns the home and her ex-boyfriend was attempting to break in at the time of the shooting.

Kent police said the officer involved is Sarah Berkey, who has worked for the department since 2008. Berkey, a school resource officer, is on paid administrative leave, pending the investigation.
