MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio --An 87-year-old Mayfield Heights woman has been arrested in the assault of her 86-year-old husband who later died.

According to Mayfield Heights police, Mildred Rastatter faces a charge of felonious assault and has been released on $25,000 bond.

Mayfield Heights Fire Department was called to her home on March 5 to take her husband, Thomas Rastatter, 86, to the hospital. Thomas was taken to Hillcrest Hospital with small stab wounds and several bruises that did not appear to be life threatening. Some of them, however, appeared to be several days old.

Authorities say Thomas implicated his wife in the assault, and Mildred later admitted to causing his injuries. She was arrested on March 6 in Thomas' assault.

According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office, Thomas passed away on March 10 at Hillcrest Hospital. The medical examiner's office is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The office Wednesday morning stated his death was "a suspected homicide as reported by Hillcrest Hospital."
