  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread (or rolls)
  • 1 lb ham
  • 1 lb roasted pork
  • 1 lb Manchego or Swiss cheese(whatever you like)
  • 2 large pickles sliced horizontally
  • 1 /2 cup of melted butter (1 stick)
  • Mustard of choice
  • Optional dressing: mojo or chimichurri sauce

These sandwiches are pressed tight while cooking. There are several grills, almost like waffle makers, available. I usually make these in a frying pan, applying pressure to the sandwich. Pushing down with a spatula works, but sometimes I use a foil wrapped brick.

Assemble sandwich: slice bread horizontally. Mustard both sides. If you like, add a swipe or two of mojo or chimichurri sauce. Start with several slices of ham, 1 slice of pickle, a slice or 2 of cheese and several slices of pork. Top with bread. Brush top and bottom with butter, then head to the sandwich grill or frying pan.

Place sandwich in a medium high heat frying pan. Put pressure on sandwich with foil wrapped brick or just push down with spatula. If you have a sandwich grill, grill until golden on top and bottom .

When cheese starts to melt, you’ve made a delicious Cuban sandwich.
