Today is a day for pancake lovers! It's National Pancake Day, and IHOP is giving free pancakes away to mark the occasion.

It's part of IHOP's "Decade of Giving."

The restaurants are offering free short stacks of their famous buttermilk pancakes to guests in hopes that they will pay it forward by making a voluntary donation to the local Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Shriners Hospital for Children, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or any other local charity.

The promotion lasts from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at participating restaurants. To date, the event has raised nearly $16 million for charity. All donations raised stay local.

Chuck Miserendino, IHOP spokesperson, stopped at Fox 8 Monday to talk about the event.
