Ex-Nordonia Hills school board president pleads guilty after child porn investigation

AKRON, Ohio- The former president of the Nordonia Hills Board of Education pleaded guilty on several child pornography-related charges on Monday.

Steven Bittel, 53, pleaded to four counts of pandering, 10 counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity, four counts of obstructing official business and one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor.

When Sagamore Hills police and the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force attempted to serve a search warrant at Bittle’s home on Sept. 5, he barricaded himself in a bedroom with a gun. He was arrested after a five-hour standoff.

According to Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh, Bittel’s IP address was connected to a file-sharing network involving child porn.

Bittel, who resigned from the board of education, will be sentenced at 11 a.m. on April 22. He faces a maximum sentenced of 31 years in prison.
