DIX HILLS, New York – Police pulled over a man for driving in the carpool lane, but it wasn’t just for speeding, it was for his passenger.
When police pulled over James Campbell’s car, they noticed the passenger wasn’t moving, according to CBS New York.
Police said they noticed the passenger wasn’t a person and that it was a wooden shape with a hooded sweatshirt on it.
Campbell told officers he was trying to get to his new job more quickly.
“He didn’t want to be late to work, so he had assembled this thing and kept it in his car so he could use the HOV lane to get to work faster,” Officer Jonathan Abrams told CBS New York. “I saved my chuckling for after I walked away from their car, and they’re not going to believe this one back at the office.”
Campbell was ticketed for speeding and an occupancy violation, as the law says a car needs at least one additional passenger to drive in the carpool lane.
Campbell told CBS New York he has no plans of stopping and will continue to use the dummy.
