CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The makers of Beneful are being sued by pet owners who say an ingredient in that food is making their dogs very sick.

The named plaintiff in the suit describes how one of his dogs died after eating Beneful and two of his dogs got sick.

In the past four years, consumers have made more than 3,000 online complaints about dogs becoming ill or dying after eating Beneful, the lawsuit says.

The suit is seeking $5 million in damages.

Dr. Evan Morse, of Warrensville Animal Clinic, explained the problem and what pet owners should look for on dog food labels.
