Man caught with cocaine after punching Akron officer, police say

AKRON, Ohio- A man was arrested after punching an Akron officer in the face during a traffic stop.

Officers spotted Dereck A. Motley, 47, speeding on Copley Road and pulled him over. Police said he refused to listen to officers’ instruction and told them his driver’s license is suspended.

As police tried to put Motley in handcuffs, he punched an officer in the face. The Akron Police Department said he was subdued with a Taser.

Police found 11 grams of crack cocaine, a digital scale and an open container Bud Light Straw-Ber-Rita in his car. He was charged with assaulting a peace officer, resisting arrest, drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia and open container.
