SANDUSKY, Ohio – Ruth Smith, 33, has been charged with attempted murder after she called herself in reporting that she was trying to kill her daughter on Friday.

Detectives responded to the call, which came from the Kalahari resort and found a deputy had already placed Smith in his cruiser so the baby could be tended to.

The little girl was in Smith’s vehicle in the backseat in her car seat. The baby appeared fine to the officers but was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, according to Sandusky police.

Detectives interviewed Smith at the police station where she admitted to driving to Kalahari with the plan to kill her daughter by suffocating her.

Smith is currently being held at the Huron County Jail with no bail amount set.
