HOLLYWOOD, California — Movie goers can’t get enough of “American Sniper.”

The movie set box office records bringing in more than $105 million over the long Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.

That’s the largest-ever opening for a January movie.

With that many eyes on the screen, moviegoers and critics have noticed something odd about the movie: a fake baby.

Entertainment journalistĀ Mark Harris tweeted about the plastic baby back in December.

“That plastic baby in American Sniper is going to be rationalized by Eastwood auteur cultists until end of days,” he wrote.

“American Sniper” screenwriter and executive producer Jason Hall admitted the baby was fake and explained why.

“Hate to ruin the fun but real baby #1 showed up with a fever. Real baby #2 was no show. (Clint voice) Gimme the doll, kid,” Hall tweeted.

For some, the fake baby didn’t matter. Others considered itĀ a distraction.
