OLATHE, Kan.- A Kansas family is demanding answers from a shipping company after their dog disappeared for nearly a month.

Wade Cook was hoping to get his father’s beloved dog to Arizona using the website uShip. He handed over the 10-year-old golden retriever on Dec. 28.

“We put a stipulation in the document that says she has to be here in two days. They said ‘Sure, no problem,’” Cook told KSHB in Kansas City.

But after two days, there was no sign of the ailing dog. Cook contacted uShip, which connected him to a Kansas City-based company. He made several phone calls, but couldn’t get any answers.

Twenty-three days went by before Jewel, who has arthritis and hip problems, arrived back in Olathe, Kansas on Saturday. She weighs less and is walking with a limp.

“Kid shows up at my door with my dog in a Pontiac Grand Am, and says ‘Here’s your dog’ and kind of pushes her in the door,” Cook said.

uShip said it will give the family a refund.

“We paid for a service. We did not get what we paid for. Fact of the matter is, my dad is by himself and he wants his dog.”
