WASHINGTON, Pa.- Medical officials in Pennsylvania believe chewing gun played a role in the death of a college basketball player.

California University of Pennsylvania senior Shanice Clark was found unresponsive in her off-campus apartment over the weekend. The 21-year-old died at Monogahela Valley Hospital on Sunday.

A preliminary report from medical personnel reveals Clark aspirated on chewing gum while she was sleeping. The Washington County Coroner’s Office said the cause and manner of her death is still under investigation.

Clark, who was from Toronto, hoped to start a career in broadcasting after college.
