CLEVELAND- Ohio State quarterback and Cleveland native Cardale Jones announced he will not be entering the 2015 NFL Draft during a news conference on Thursday.
He met with OSU head coach Urban Meyer and Ted Ginn Sr. before his announcement. Jones his coach didn't make any promises about starting next season.
“When I make the decision to play in the NFL, I want to be done with school," Jones told the media from the gym of Ginn Academy. “Football has always been a stepping stone to me education.”
Jones said declaring for the draft after three games was out of the question. The quarterback told reporters he did not buy into the hype that he could be a first or second-round pick.
Jones, the third-string quarterback, lead the Ohio State Buckeyes to a 42-20 win over the Oregon Ducks to win the first College Football Playoff National Championship.
“When I raised that championship trophy over my head, it felt like I was on top of the world. It’s a feeling I want again,” Jones told Fox 8 News’ Melissa Reid on Wednesday.
