AKRON, Ohio- A 2-year-old was thrown from an SUV after police say an Akron woman lead police on a chase.

Officers were looking for a woman wanted on a felonious assault warrant at a home on Copley Road just before midnight on Tuesday. They spotted a woman and child getting into a Buick Rendezvous, and attempted to pull the car over.

But police said Lashawnna G. Taylor, 33, refused to stop as she sped through stop signs and red lights. Officers did not activate their lights and sirens, following at a distance so they wouldn’t risk the child’s safety. They later learned there were five children riding in the car.

Eventually, Taylor lost control, hitting a snow bank and two poles at West Wilbeth Road and 22nd Street Southwest. The car overturned after striking a metal fence. That’s when a 2-year-old was ejected.

When officers arrived, the SUV was on its roof with two women and four other children inside. None of them were wearing seatbelts and the children were not in car seats, police said. Only one kid suffered serious injuries.

Taylor admitted she was drinking before the chase. She was charged with five counts of child endangering, willful flee, operating under the influence and driving with a suspended license, and taken to the Summit County Jail.
