It’s a day of service to some. It’s about remembrance or education to others.
Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There are several events set around the community to help residents recognize it.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is recognized on the third Monday of January, around the time of King’s Jan. 15 birthday.

Akron-Summit County Main Library Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Program
WHEN: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18
WHERE: Akron-Summit County Main Library, 60 High St., Akron. The “Martin Luther King Jr.: The Man and the Dream” documentary will be shown. A panel discussion will follow.
WHEN: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20
WHERE: Berea-Midpark High School, 165 East Bagley Road, Berea. The MLK Candlelight March will begin at the high school and move west on Bagley Road ending at BW’s Center for Innovation and Growth.
Case Western Reserve University Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation
WHEN: 12:30 p.m., Friday Jan. 23
WHERE: Tinkham Veale University Center’s Kelvin & Eleanor Smith Foundation Grand Ballroom, 11038 Bellflower Road, Cleveland. Keynote address by journalist and civil rights author Charlayne Hunter-Gault, followed by a reception and book signing.
Chapel Worship Service

Cleveland Public Library Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration

WHERE: Cleveland Public LIbrary, Martin Luther King Jr. Branch, 1962 Stokes Blvd. All-City Arts Drumline and The Disguished Gentlemen of Spoken Word performances. Performance by Open Tone Music, Keynote Speaker Pastor Richard M. Gibson and presentation of Drum Major for Change Award.

WHERE: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cleveland Downtown, 1111 Lakeside Ave. E., in downtown Cleveland. Event includes a presentation of 2015 Class of MLK Holiday Scholars and a keynote address. The breakfast theme is “Walking in the light.”
Edward L. Peel Coleman Community Center Celebration

‘From MLK to Mike Brown: A Series of Inconvenient Movements’

WHERE:The Great Lakes Science Center is offering free general admission all day. Imax and food is an additional cost.
Greater Cleveland Volunteers Fourth Annual Food/Hygiene Item Drive
WHEN: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday Jan. 19
WHERE: Greater Cleveland Volunteers office, 4415 Euclid Ave., Cleveland. Will collect non-perishable food and personal hygiene items to benefit area food pantries. Also honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s service to the country.
“Hate Crimes in the Heartland” documentary screening

Hear Our Voices: MLK Day at Maltz Museum

WHERE: The Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage, 2929 Richmond Road, Beachwood. Begins with a tribute to Connie Harper. AT 1 p.m. is a spoken word performance. At 3 p.m. is a “Sing for Change” performance.
Kent State’s 13th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration
WHEN: 4 p.m., Thursday Jan. 22
WHERE: Kent Student Center Ballroom. The program includes the Black National Anthem, presentation of the 2015 Diversity Trailblazer Award and an MLK celebration kick-off.
