Man robs gas station clerk at gunpoint on New Year’s Eve

MANTUA, Ohio — Sheriff’s deputies are asking for help identifying the suspect in an armed robbery at a gas station on New Year’s Eve.

According to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, it happened at about 10:05 p.m. at the Marathon gas station, 4737 State Route 82 in Mantua Township.

The suspect entered the gas station and had a large handgun. He approached the cashier and demanded an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing on foot. The cashier was not harmed.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early 30s. He was between 5’8″ and 5’10” tall with an average build and blue eyes. He was wearing a light blue coat with a gray hooded sweatshirt and a red shirt underneath the sweatshirt.

He was also wearing blue jeans that were dirty along with brown boots. His face was covered with a black cloth, and he was wearing red gloves.

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect is asked to call 330-296-5100 ext. 0.

Authorities say the man should be considered armed and dangerous.
