Standoff ends after authorities find armed robbery suspect with self-inflicted gunshot wound

OLENA, Ohio– Authorities said a standoff situation in Huron County ended hours after it began.

According to a press release from the Huron County Sheriff’s Office, it started at 6:30 Saturday night when authorities were in pursuit of a robbery suspect believed to be armed and dangerous.

The pursuit continued into the Fitchville area where stop sticks were deployed. That was not successful and the pursuit continued into Olena, where authorities said the suspect ran from the car and into a home with his firearm.

There was no one inside the home at the time.

After many hours and the suspect refusing to surrender, a robot was deployed into the home. That’s when authorities learned the suspect had a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was flown to a Toledo hospital.
