ROCK HILL, South Carolina – Derby got new legs and a new lease on life.

After being born with deformed front paws, Derby faced shelters and possibly being put down. That was until Tara Anderson decided to foster him, and used her job at 3D Systems to help Derby out.

Until Derby got his new legs, hard surfaces were too abrasive for him, according to a release from 3D Systems.

Anderson and her colleagues used data from the shape of Derby’s small forearms to create the prosthetics.

Derby’s new owners say that he now loves running and usually runs 2-3 miles per day.

3D Systems also say they are currently altering the design to Derby’s legs to better suit his body; they are a work in progress and are being adjusted as needed.
