NEWBURGH HEIGHTS – Officer Shawn Finch had to take a few deep breaths before he could look at the cruiser he was riding in Friday night when he was hit by a pick up truck.

“I knew it would be hard to look at,” the 41-year-old said as he stood by the cruiser with his chief John ‎Majoy. “Man. It’s rough.”

Finch returned to work Tuesday, still sore and bruised from the crash.

Finch’s cruiser was struck by a pick up truck around 6 Friday evening, as he was working traffic on 77 Northbound.

Finch was going after a speeder when the crash took place.

“I never even saw him,” Finch said referring to the other driver.

He said one of the first things he wanted to do after the crash was call his wife.

“She is the most important person in my life,” Finch said.

The truck driver, Salvatore Calo, is facing several charges including OVI and driving under suspension. He is due in court later this week.
