Man found guilty of abandoning animals after gruesome discovery at farm

ELYRIA, Ohio- A man charged in what officials said was one of the worst animal abuse cases in Lorain County has been found guilty on two counts.

Mahmoud Abukhalil, 41, was found guilty of abandoning animals, after authorities made a gruesome discovery of sick horses and animal carcasses at a farm in Grafton Township in May.

Charges of cruelty to animals and obstructing official business were dismissed. Abukhalil is scheduled to be sentenced on January 8.

All the charges against Richard Newton, 49, were dismissed.
