OLMSTED FALLS, Ohio -- A local war veteran is getting a new home thanks to volunteers.
Sgt. Alex Haworth and his wife purchased the home, but found that it was infested with mold and uninhabitable.
Honors, Neopat and VFW Post 7647 helped demolish the original structure to build a new home.
Haworth was injured by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in 2012. He suffered a severely broken leg, a broken arm, hearing loss, nerve damage, traumatic brain injury, multiple shrapnel wounds and several other injuries.
Saturday, he thanked everyone for their support.
"The fact that everyone gave what they gave us; it can't be reciprocated," he said. "The flag with the 50 stars on it is why we did what we did. Not for this, and the fact that it's here, it's a testament to what this country is and what it always will be."
Haworth will live in the home with his wife, Mallorie, and their daughters, Emma and Annabel.
