Police: 3-year-old accidentally shot after finding handgun

LORAIN, Ohio - Police are investigating after a 3-year-old girl was shot in the head Sunday.

Police responded to the home on West 28th Street to find the girl's father holding her. She was taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment, and later transferred to Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital.

The girl was listed in critical condition Monday morning.

According to Lorain police, two children were playing alone inside the home when they found a loaded handgun. The victim's four-year-old brother began playing with the handgun and pulled the trigger, accidentally shooting his sister.

There were a total of five people at the house at the time of the shooting.

The incident is still under investigation.
