BEACHWOOD – Mother Nature dominated the afternoon, but Beachwood survived the elements and overtime, to defeat visiting Cuyahoga Heights, 21-20.

It marks the fifth straight win for the Bisons, after they lost their first three games of the season.

Beachwood (5-3) is now in playoff position in Division V, Region 15.

The game came down to a single play.

Trailing by one point in overtime, Cuyahoga Heights (5-3) coach Al Martin chose to play for the win, by attempting a two-point conversion, but quarterback Craig McDaniel’s pass fell incomplete, giving the Bisons the win.

Tailback Nate Hamilton led Beachwood with 150 yards rushing and two touchdowns, including a 78-yard scoring run in the first quarter.

Beachwood quarterback Max Balazs scored the go-ahead touchdown in overtime on a broken play.

Cuyahoga Heights relied on running back Grayson Thaker, who racked up more than 140 yards and scored all three touchdowns for the Redskins.

The loss is a big blow to Cuyahoga Heights’ playoff chances.

The Redskins will need to win their final two games to have any chance of making the top-8 in Division VI, Region 19.

Beachwood will face its toughest test of the season in week #9 against the defending Division VI State Champion Kirtland Hornets, who have won 53 consecutive regular season games and 23 straight games, overall.
