CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There are things you never want your doctor to say. “We have a problem” is one of them.

A North Carolina couple was given that message during their six-week ultrasound.

According to, the doctor said there could be as many as six babies. There turned out to be seven.

Selective reduction, the termination of some of the babies to give the others a better chance, was recommended, but the couple refused.

The first miscarriage happened at week 12. The other six babies were born at 21 weeks. They survived about two hours, long enough for mom to dress them just one time, reported.

While the grief was immense, the couple said they wanted people to know there is hope even when there is sorrow.
