PARMA HEIGHTS- Greenbriar is one of three middle schools in the Parma School District.
With more than 900 students, it is a big school that strives to make everyone feel like they belong. “Our school stands out from other schools because everybody fits in here. There are different groups, different clubs. And, our school has a great staff and faculty. They are really nice and I like to learn here," 6th grader Eric Hoover said.
When it comes to academics, Greenbriar received an "S" from the State of Ohio for marked improvement in student growth. "And, that's for individual growth of all our students; so we are very proud of that. And, with our middle school philosophy, our kids are first,” Principal Frank Spisak said.
There is a team approach to teaching. Four core teachers work together with a specific group of students. "I think the teachers have the students' interests in mind and their individual learning. So, they look to see where the student is at and where they need to grow and help them intervene any way they can,” math teacher Amy Fink said.
And, that team approach extends to the students who often times learn in groups. "The way we learn is always in a fun way, so we get more interested in learning,” 6th grader Emily Beckner said.
Many students also participate in Discover Center which is an after –school intervention and enrichment program.
At Greenbriar, the motto is: It starts with 'me' and ends with 'us.' And, it's that team work and working together that helps to make Greenbriar a Fox 8 Cool School.
