EUCLID – Holy Name and Villa Angela-St. Joseph were nearly even all night, until the final play.

VASJ’s (4-2) defense stopped the Green Wave’s two-point conversion attempt in overtime, to seal a hard fought 21-20 win over the visiting Namers.

Holy Name (2-4) took a 14-7 lead with just under five minutes remaining.

But the Vikings marched down the field, to score the tying touchdown and extra point with just 20 seconds left in regulation.

The game went to overtime tied at 14-14.

VASJ started on offense and quarterback Tre’von Williams connected with tight end Jacob Stauffer on a short touchdown pass to put the Vikings ahead 21-14.

Holy Name scored a touchdown to cut the lead to 21-20, but rather than attempting a tying extra point, the Green Wave opted to go for two.

VASJ’s defense held and the Vikings walked away with the victory.

VASJ hits the road next Friday to play Warren John F. Kennedy (1-5).

Holy Name travels to Alliance to face a talented St. Thomas Aquinas (5-1) team.
