ALLIANCE, Ohio- New details were released Thursday, a day after a 56-year-old Alliance dishwasher is accused of shooting a bus boy, stopping to drink tequila, and then shooting the 26-year-old one more time.
The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon at the Blue Fig Restaurant in Alliance, after the two were allegedly fighting over tip money.
According to police, during the argument, Peter Ortiz went outside to the parking lot, got a gun out of his car and went back inside where he confronted Akira Kirksey.
“At this point it looks like he shot him three times, and then walked to the bar portion of the restaurant and grabbed a bottle of tequila, took a couple of drinks, and walked back over to the victim and shot him one last time, and then went outside and waited for police,” said Lt. John Jenkins, of the Alliance Police Department.
Jenkins said when police arrived, Ortiz was arrested in the parking lot. He said the crime is senseless and one of the most unusual of his career.
“He [Ortiz] commented to us that he thought this was the last time he would be able to take a drink for awhile so he wanted one last drink,” Jenkins said.
Ortiz is being held in the Stark County Jail on several charges including aggravated murder.
Those who lived near Ortiz said they are shocked by the crime. “No way would we expect it, something like that,” said Patty Miller, who lives near Ortiz.
And Mike White agrees saying he knew both the suspect and the victim. He said he is heartbroken by Kirksey’s death.
“He was easygoing,” While said. “He was a very nice person, nice to everybody.”
Ortiz is due in court Friday.
