CLEVELAND — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie plans to help Ohio Republican candidates rally their base during a get-out-the-vote event Monday afternoon in suburban Cleveland.

The rally will be held at a business in the Cleveland suburb of Independence. Ohio Gov. John Kasich is expected to speak along with a number of prominent Ohio Republicans that include U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, U.S. Rep. Dave Joyce, U.S. Rep. Jim Renacci and Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor.

The event will occur in the political backyard of Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, Kasich’s Democratic opponent in November’s gubernatorial race.

Kasich has substantial leads in polls and fundraising over FitzGerald, whose campaign has been stymied by controversy and staff defections.
