One woman killed, one injured in shooting at Cleveland Heights bar

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — One woman was killed and another injured in a shooting at R & R Bar in Cleveland Heights early Saturday.

According to Cleveland Heights police, it happened at just before 2:30 a.m. at the bar located at 1920 S. Taylor Road.

Police were called to the bar to reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found two female victims of gunshot wounds. One was located inside the bar, and the second on the sidewalk outside the entrance to the bar.

Both women were taken to area hospitals. One is listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound to her leg. Arrion Y. Smiley, 25, of Cleveland, died shortly after arriving at the hospital.


Police say a disturbance occurred inside the bar between a group of six to eight males and a second group of patrons. Security escorted the first group of males from the establishment. A short time later, shots were fired by males outside of the bar.

It was at that time that the two women were shot as they stood outside the entrance.

The incident is still under investigation.
