CLEVELAND — A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his three children, has been charged with aggravated murder.

Police said it happened on East 33rd Street around 12 a.m. Tuesday.  The kids, all under the age of 8, were reportedly at the home.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots and ran over to try to help Malorie Ferrell but it was too late.

Paramedics took Ferrell to MetroHealth Medical Center where police said she passed away from multiple gunshot wounds.

Alberto Medina, 32, was arrested a short time later Tuesday.  The aggravated murder charge came Wednesday.

Friends said Ferrell was afraid of Medina and frequently called police about his behavior.

In August, Medina was arrested on domestic violence charges.

The case was bound over to the county and on August 25 Medina was released on $5,000 bond and ordered to stay away from the victim.

They said Ferrell tried to get away from Medina and the hard-working mother was preparing to start a new career and move away from the area.

Ferrell ’s family said they plan to pursue custody of the children.

Medina’s arraignment was set for Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
