ELYRIA, Ohio– Elyria police are looking for the gunman who shot a store clerk early Thursday morning.

It happened around 2:45 a.m. at the Circle K off North Abbe Road.

According to Captain Chris Constantino, the victim had gone outside to smoke and was confronted by a man in a mask. He was armed with a gun.

"The clerk tried to get back in the store and lock the door and at that time, he was charged by the gunman. They got into a tussle and the gun fired and the clerk was shot,” he said.

The suspect then ran off while the victim managed to make his way back inside to call police. He was quickly rushed to the hospital.

He’s now listed in good condition.

The entire incident was caught on security cameras. Police aren’t releasing that video just yet.

As for a possible motive, that’s still being reviewed.

"Nothing was said. There was no dialogue between the clerk and the gunman,” recalled Captain Constantino.

There isn’t much of a suspect description at this time, but he said he was with someone else.

"This is a very dangerous person that we certainly have to get off the streets so that no one else gets hurt,” he said.
