The standard workweek is considered to be 40 hours, but a Gallup poll found very barely four in 10 people in the U.S. work exactly that much.

The average number hours worked per week was 47.

Only 8 percent of full-time employees say they work less than 40 hours.

Gallup used its annual Work and Education Survey to determine its findings.  More than 1,000 adults working full time participated.
