CLEVELAND, Ohio — A man faces child endangering charges after leaving a 1-year-old and an 8-year-old behind in a car during a police chase.

According to Cleveland police, it happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday.

Officers pulled the man over for a traffic violation in the 9900 block of Nicholas Avenue. The 21-year-old didn’t have a license. He did have two children in the rear seat of the vehicle, and told police that they could be dropped off at a home near where he was pulled over.

But officers said the resident in that home didn’t know the driver, who then ran away leaving the children behind.

The children were taken to the Jane Edna Hunter Center, and their family members were contacted.

A warrant for child endangering will be issued for the suspect.
