Former NFL coach turned analyst Tony Dungy is coming under fire for a comment he made about openly gay player Michael Sam.

In an interview with the Tampa Tribune, Dungy said he would not have drafted Sam because he “wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.”

Sam came out in February interviews.

His draft was viewed as a barometer of whether the NFL was ready to accept an openly gay player.

Sam was selected by the Rams in the seventh and final round. He was the 249th of 256 players chosen.
