Do not open, respond to, or believe this email
BEREA, Ohio — Don’t believe everything you read, especially if you’re accused of driving on a toll road without paying.
The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission warned its customers not to open or respond to an email from “E-ZPass Info.”
The email asks the customer to service the debt in the shortest possible time and provides a link to download an invoice.
“The emails were not sent by the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission and they are likely an attempt to steal personal information or funds from unsuspecting customers,” said OTIC Executive Director Richard Hodges. “This warning may help prevent the Turnpike’s valued E-ZPass customers from being scammed.”
The scam has been reported in a number of states, including New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia.
Anyone with questions about the E-ZPass program or correspondence may call the Turnpike’s Customer Service Center at (440) 234-2081, ext. 1075.
