WESTLAKE, Ohio — A local veteran got a big surprise Sunday at the American Liberty Fest in Crocker Park.
A surprise donation was made to help Sgt. Alex Haworth and his family.
The Northeast Ohio Foundation for Patriotism has been working on a campaign called “Finish the Haworth Home,” which is geared toward building a new home for the family.
The Haworths actually purchased a home in Olmsted Township before Alex was injured in a suicide bombing while serving in Afghanistan.
When he returned home in November 2012, it was discovered that their house had conditions that made it uninhabitable. Since, they’ve been paying for the home, but cannot live there. They’ve been staying in an apartment.
Sunday, Crocker Park made a $5,000 donation to NEOPAT for its campaign. It was also announced that Danny Vegh’s donated $2,000 in patio furniture to the family.
Alex, who is now a police officer, along with his wife and his two children thanked NEOPAT and Crocker Park for their generous donations.
